You had been working on this for days, straining and reaching, but the warm clothes and socks kept getting in the way. It was a little sunny, so we left you with less on and within no time your leg was up and your foot was in your mouth like you had been doing it your whole life. Mum and Dad were sitting right beside you and we both burst out laughing, because the determination that had been building for days finally had its moment. From that day on it became your absolute favourite thing, and now you are already eyeing up the second foot, because of course you are.

And then it happened, you laughed, a real, bright, delighted laugh that told him you understood exactly what was going on. It started subtly, a small, deliberate little cough that made us look up in concern, only to find you watching us with the most satisfied expression on your face. The moment we reacted, you did it again, eyes bright and completely aware of exactly what you were doing. You were not unwell, not uncomfortable, just very pleased to have found a new tool in your arsenal and very willing to use it. We had barely three months of experience with you and you were already playing us like pros.
